How I build my hive stands

Hive stands are often overlooked to new beekeepers. I feel as though a simple and effective hive stand is of utmost importance especially here in the south where crawling insects can totally destroy a hive. I have included a video on how I build my simple but strong hive stands. I hope this helps.

We've learned it's simple to build most parts of a hive. I'll only have to buy frames in the spring. I use screened bottom boards and after seeing what builds up on the bottom of my wooden hive stand, I like the concept of yours being open. All that mess can just fall to the ground. Thanks for an interesting little video.

BTW, if you built the hive pictured at the top of the sidebar, it looks like a beautiful piece of work.

Thanks Lynn, you are so kind to me in all of your comments. I did build the hive that you see. The open hive stand works well here in the south for the very reason you mentioned. In fact, there is a commercial beekeeper locally that uses this type of setup.

Pretty nice place you've got here. Thanks the author for it. I like such topics and everything that is connected to them. I would like to read a bit more on that blog soon.

Sincerely yours

Paul,

I am a new beekeeper and this helped me build my stand. I am installing bees on 4/23/2011 and I plan to build my stand and setup hive tommorrow. This is easy and awesome.
